What’s Charleston Green?
It's a beautiful, dark, inky green color with a pretty cool (unofficial) backstory!
There’s no official historical record of the origin of Charleston Green, but local legends say during the rebuilding of the South after the Civil War the Union army sent black paint to help with the reconstruction. In an effort to perk things up, Charlestonians tinted the given black paint with yellow and green.
The result was an inky, greenish-black that is still used all over the city.
You can always find traces of Charleston Green in my downtown Charleston studio. The Sherwin Williams official Charleston Green color from their Historic Colors of Charleston pallet is my go to - ensuring I can share this exact sultry historic color with you and your homes! A collection of 13 original paintings were created in the summer of 2022 - view this collection and it was such a nice way to get to know this beautiful color that’s accented all over town! I also released two limited edition, signed and numbered Charleston Green prints from this lovely collection that pair so well together!
And if you’ve been following my creative journey, you know I work in a few mediums. My creative process of collecting inspiration mostly comes from the photographs I take around town. I love bringing the warm light and textures of the charming downtown Charleston homes into my studio while referencing my abstract paintings, but the photos are too good to keep to myself. So my Mixed Media collections are my interactive way of sharing my town with you! All work is printed on canvas in my downtown Charleston studio and then accented with playful brush strokes! Similar to my originals, the gold accents dance around in the light - making the viewer move around to see different angels of the artwork. What’s more fun - but still sophisticated - than artwork that you can interact with?! View all available Charleston Mixed Media pieces below.
